The Take
One-level living in Denver
Most of Denver's one-level stock went up after World War II. Harvey Park has the 170 homes Cliff May, the pioneer of the California Ranch style, designed there in the mid-1950s. Belcaro and Cory-Merrill have brick ranches on generous lots, and Hilltop has mid-century ranch and split-level designs on large lots. Montclair runs from Victorian to ranch on generous lots, and Hale is lined with 1940s brick bungalows.
Those older ranches are also why so many Denver one-level homes have basements. If you want main-floor living without stairs anywhere in the house, say so early and I'll filter for it.
These are the listings the MLS marks as one level: ranches, patio homes and one-level townhomes. Plenty of ranches also have a basement, so "one-level" here means everything you need day to day is on the main floor, not that there are no stairs anywhere. Short sales, bank-owned homes and fixer-uppers are left out.
